Send an email to save the Davis House and WCAI

You can help!

This page has information about how you can help by sending an email. You can learn more about the story behind this community effort here: Help Us Save the Davis House and WCAI.

As events continue to unfold in the potential sale of WCAI’s home by parent company WGBH, we are asking concerned community members to take the following steps:

1.    Please take a moment from your busy schedules to send an email.  There is some sample language at the bottom of this page.  We suggest you copy/paste these email addresses, sending all at once to the full list:

susan_goldberg@wgbh.org,

susan_rosen@wgbh.org,

annmariefudge@gmail.com,

abbottjonc@gmail.com

richard_weissbourd@gse.harvard.edu,

henry_becton@wgbh.org,

peddinger@bhcc.edu,

kcrock@mit.edu,

Imari@kingboston.org,

aidan.ryan@globe.com,

sam.houghton@mvtimes.com,

savewcairadio@gmail.com

Who are these people?  Susan Goldberg, President and Chief Executive Officer, GBH. Susan Rosen, Vice President and General Counsel, GBH. Members of the GBH Board of Trustees: Ann Fudge, Jon Abbott, Richard Weissbourd, Henry Becton, Pam Eddinger. Members of the GBH Board of Advisors: Karilyn Crockett, Imari Paris Jeffries. Also, members of the media: Aidan Ryan at the Boston Globe, Sam Houghton at the MV Times.

We think it best that emails be short and to the point.  Express that you’re upset (without too much venom, please!) and include a call to action. We request that WGBH holds off on the sale of the building for at least 30 days and allows the community to develop options for buying the building.

2.    If anyone knows any other people on the WGBH Board, please email them your concerns as well, and copy this email address (savewcairadio@gmail.com). It’s essential that the Board understands the community’s concerns and that displacing WCAI will adversely affect their fundraising. A list of board members can be found here: https://www.wgbh.org/foundation/leadership/board-of-trustees

The template below includes some elements we think could be included in communications to WGBH and media.

Thanks for helping!

Join the cause: make a pledge

We are asking for signed pledges of financial support to purchase the historic Captain Davis House for Woods Hole. For legal reasons, we need these to be communicated as a signed pdf file.

Here’s the link to the pdf form for making a pledge

Please return the form to: woodshole@woodsholecommunityassociation.org

The Woods Hole Community Association Board of Trustees has voted to start this campaign with a pledged contribution of $300,000.

Fulfillment of all pledges is conditional upon the Community Association purchasing the building. Without a purchase, no money is collected.

Thank you!

Sample wording for emails:

I am writing to express my dismay regarding the pending sale of the building housing the public radio station, WCAI, in Woods Hole.

I ask that you stop this short-sighted sale and commit to keeping CAI in its historic broadcasting home.

Barring that, I ask that you hold off on the sale of the building for 30 days and give the community the opportunity to put together a credible offer to purchase the property and explore options to keep the station in place via a rental agreement.

The community has been fortunate to have the station in Woods Hole, and has done its utmost to support the building itself through Community Preservation funding, as well as private donations to WGBH. Having discussed this issue with other WGBH supporters, I feel a sense of community distress that will almost certainly curtail future giving.

There is a sense of having the building sold out from underneath us, when a more deliberate, thoughtful and transparent process would have enabled the community to develop potential solutions.

We hope WGBH will reconsider this sale and allow the community to find funding to keep the building and our radio station at home.
